Review on How DFID Works with Multilateral Agencies to Achieve Impact
The review, led by Nigel Thornton at Agulhas and Mark Foster at ICAI, considered how well DFID engages with multilaterals to achieve impact. Two thirds of DFID budget is spent on multilaterals and many of them depend on DFID for most of their funding. The review found that DFID has been effective in using its influence to promote positive change in multilaterals and in encouraging to focus on cost effectiveness. The review also found that DFID’s focus on improving agencies’ management processes has been at the expenses of strategic dialogue on what multilaterals do and how they do it.
