We support our clients by distilling the best in international knowledge, and applying it to their unique circumstances. The Agulhas approach is practical and challenging. In all of our engagements, we strive to:

  1. Access the most innovative knowledge available through our network
  2. Collaborate closely with clients, stakeholders and beneficiaries
  3. Provide honest insights and analysis based on robust, triangulated and objective evidence.
  4. Deliver a final output that challenges and produces real change
At Agulhas we work for a more sustainable world. One of our key principles is to do our best to minimize our negative impacts on the planet through lowering our carbon, waste and water consumption.

We cycle or walk where possible, we travel by bike or public transport in the UK and by train to continental Europe. When we take long flights we offset these and put our carbon emissions through Pure Leapfrog, a charity that enables communities to take power over their own clean energy future. We use 100% green electricity, use recycled products as standard and recycle as much of our waste as possible.

For more than 16 years Agulhas has worked with development agencies, governments, development banks, corporations and civil society to tackle some of the most challenging issues in international development and sustainability.

Agulhas was founded in 2003.  Led by Nigel Thornton, Catherine Cameron and Marcus Cox, the company has a business model that works with trusted individuals to ensure quality. Driven by a desire to do valuable work and participate in critical debates in development and sustainability, the directors have developed the company organically, adapting to the market and client’s needs.

The name Agulhas comes from Cape Agulhas, the southern tip of the African continent, where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean currents meet and contribute to the regulation of the earth’s temperature.

We will continue to work to harness knowledge and learning for sustainable development.

We will strive to deliver the best quality work we can in the areas where we can use our skills to make the greatest impact. We will continually look for ways to do better: individually; together; and with clients, contractors and communities.

We will share ideas and good practice. We will raise concerns quickly and deal with them fairly.

We will conduct ourselves in a way in which we can be proud. We will be honest with each other, our    clients and ourselves.  We will provide challenge where it is needed and praise where it is due.

We will treat each other and our clients, communities and supply chain with respect. We will take the  time to listen to others, look for the best in people and strive to empower others to be their best.
