Drawing together data from 51 of Africa’s 54 countries, the African Gender Index offers a comprehensive picture of gender equality in Africa today and the progress that is being made in closing gender gaps, in areas ranging from education and health to jobs, wages, participation in politics and leadership roles. It also features marked differences between regions suggesting a nexus between gender equality, stability and economic prosperity. This report analyses the patterns from the Africa Gender Index and assesses what is required to accelerate progress on gender equality across the continent and across sectors.
