Simon is a Senior Technical Manager for Climate Change at Agulhas. In this role he supports business development activities and provides technical consultancy expertise, leading the delivery of climate and environment evaluation and research projects. Simon’s work focuses on generating strategic, evidence-based insights to support bi- and multilateral funding agencies, helping shape impactful policies and programmes through robust analysis and advisory support.

Simon has 18 years evaluation, applied research, and consultancy experience in the climate, environment and development sectors. He has specific technical expertise in climate change adaptation, nature conservation, and monitoring and evaluation, and has experience of working with research institutions, private sector organisations, NGOs and policy makers to improve effectiveness to deliver positive environmental outcomes on the ground.

Simon has strong quantitative and qualitative evaluation skills and a track record of successfully employing mixed-methods approaches in leading technical research and evaluation projects. He is a skilled communicator and accomplished writer, with extensive experience of synthesising complex research outputs for policy stakeholders, as well as workshop facilitation and presentations.


Key work skills

Simon has a PhD in climate change adaptation, conservation and learning. He has a particular interest in nature-based solutions to support climate adaptation, and issues at the interface of climate change, conflict and fragility.

Other interests

Simon has young kids and a hyperactive dog so doesn’t seem to get a lot of free time. When he can carve out a moment, he loves playing guitar, sampling a good dram with friends, and recharging with long walks in the Scottish hills.
