Joshua Taylor

Manager

Joshua works in Agulhas’ Conflict, Crisis and Fragility practice, leading and delivering high-quality research, evaluations, and project management, including with the Multilateral Organisation Performance Assessment (MOPAN) team and Unitaid. He plays a key role in developing Agulhas’s CCAF (Conflict, Crises, and Fragility) portfolio, identifying new opportunities, and helping to build Agulhas’s visibility as a thought leader. Joshua supports strategic planning to ensure Agulhas’ work addresses the challenges of conflict, fragility, and humanitarian crises with insight and impact.


Joshua has several years of experience delivering international research and consultancy across conflict-affected and fragile states. He previously led the Africa research portfolio at ORB International, managing multi-country projects and applying advanced analytics and mixed method approaches to assess crisis dynamics and programme impact. Joshua has also contributed to research across the Global South with Ipsos and YouGov, specialising in hard-to-reach populations and Key Opinion Formers. Earlier, at Deloitte, he provided research consulting to both public and private sector clients. He brings a strong track record in governance, conflict and fragility, and supports evidence-based policy and programming.


Key Work Skills

His thematic expertise includes governance, Women, Peace and Security, and contemporary issues in conflict and fragile states, particularly in Africa and South Asia. Key areas include Al Shabaab governance in Somalia, DDRR in Niger, coups and democratic backsliding across the Global South, and the geopolitics of China and Russia in Africa. Joshua is skilled in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), primary research in conflict and fragility settings, and providing evidence-based insights for governments, donors, and international organisations.

Other Interests

Outside of work, Joshua is passionate about movement, mindfulness, and community. A keen marathon runner and regular member of a local run club, Joshua has completed multiple full and half marathons, often raising money for charity in the process. Joshua is currently training to qualify as a yoga teacher, loves learning languages, and volunteers for an LGBT+ helpline, offering support to those in need.
