This year’s Glocal 2025 theme is “Evaluation for a Better Future: Environmental Sustainability, Inclusion, and Peace.” In a time of growing inequality and political polarization, Glocal 2025 will spotlight the role of evaluation in bridging divides and fostering evidence-based discourse and decision-making.
Agulhas will therefore host a discussion between diverse members of the global peacebuilding ecosystem, addressing key issues including;
- To enable a more inclusive and peaceful future, must MEL challenge the status quo and consider more radical recommendations, encouraging institutional reform?
- In a world where funding is being stretched to the limit or cut, how can innovative approaches support lasting, inclusive peace?
- How can MEL support accelerated change to achieve the 2030 agenda?
- How can we innovate MEL approaches to stay relevant, given the changed and changing context (e.g., protracted crises and declining aid)?
Attendees will be encouraged to put questions to the panel, enabling an open discussion, knowledge sharing, and empowered learning.
Our panellists, including evaluators, implementors and experts on donor policy from across the conflict, fragility and peacebuilding sector, will ensure a range of experiences are included in the discussion, exploring how MEL can evolve and support inclusive, sustainable peace from a variety of perspectives. Panellists from Cabal Group, Conciliation Resources and Itad will join Agulhas for this discussion and represent a diversity of perspectives from across the sector. It is our hope that enabling a wider discussion between those who support MEL, those who use it and those who commission it, will bring opportunities to suggest tangible recommendations to a wider network of actors in the MEL system.
Participants will be exposed to the views and recommendations of our panellists, before a Q&A, where participants and panellists will discuss how we might address barriers to lasting peace, evolving the sector and inclusive approaches, and audience members will be encouraged to share their own knowledge and experience.
Glocal Evaluation Week is a unique knowledge-sharing event, connecting a global community of people across sectors and regions. Over the course of a week, participants from all over the world join events – in their neighbourhood or across the ocean – to learn from each other on a vast number of topics and themes. Allowing participants insight into how their work fits in with regional monitoring and evaluation (M&E) ecosystems and the larger international M&E community, Glocal helps to inspire and energize a global movement – individuals and organizations who value the power of evidence to improve people’s lives.
Since 2019, the Glocal platform has hosted thousands of events in multiple languages across six continents. It has grown to become one of the largest M&E knowledge-sharing events in the world.
Glocal is convened and supported by the Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) – a network of organizations and experts that supports countries with strengthening their monitoring and evaluation systems to help governments gather and use evidence that improves the lives of their citizens.
