Agulhas and its partners, including young evaluators and young people who have been involved in evaluations of programmes from Climate Strategies, Data Innovators and the Youth Negotiators Programme, will ask: how is evaluation is helping with accountability to youth, particularly as the end users of climate/development programmes or projects? How can we get more youth involved in evaluations and what are the barriers/enabling factors? Where do young people see the value of Monitoring & Evaluation, and where do they see they could add value in the process?

A virtual panel will discuss these questions from various viewpoints, including as evaluators and as end-users of programmes being evaluated, and encourage an open discussion with attendees via Q&A functions.

Youth in Evaluation week 2024 builds on the success of the inaugural Week in 2023, of which Agulhas was also a part. Aligned with the UN Summit of the Future 2024, events over the week will seek to gather the global evaluation community to amplify dialogue on intergenerational solidarity for transformative evaluation and build on momentum for enhancing meaningful youth engagement in evaluation. The overarching theme for Youth in Evaluation week 2024 is ‘Upholding Youth in Evaluation standards’.

Agulhas’ event will focus on three of the six dimensions of the standards – leadership and accountability, practice, and advocacy and capacity building – for advancing intergenerational partnerships in evaluation.

About Youth in Evaluation Week

Sparking a global movement, the Eval4Action campaign and partners hosted the inaugural Youth in Evaluation Week in April 2023. The event was an inclusive and intergenerational gathering of young and emerging evaluators (YEEs) and the global evaluation community, focusing on advancing the meaningful engagement of youth in evaluation. It comprised 50 events including at global, regional and national levels. Building on this momentum, the second Youth in Evaluation week will be held from 8 to 12 July 2024. This event is aligned with the priorities of the United Nations Secretary-General’s ‘Our Common Agenda’ and the vision of the forthcoming Summit of the Future 2024, that seeks to reinvigorate multilateralism to deliver on existing global commitments and respond to new opportunities and challenges.
