IDC hearing of ICAI review “UK aid’s contribution to tackling tax avoidance and evasion”

The International Development Committee today heard from the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) and the Department for International Development (DfID) on the UK aid’s contribution to tackling tax avoidance and evasion.

The session looked at DFID’s work with other government departments and in particular with Treasury and HMRC to influence the setting of new tax standards at the G20, as well as to help build the capacity of developing countries to implement those tax standards.

The IDC explored how effective this work has been, as well as how DFID responded to ICAI’s recommendations in order to improve in the future.

Dr Alison Evans, and Richard Gledhill, ICAI’s commissioners, were supported by Agulhas’ Fellow Charlotte Vaillant, team leader for the review, and Dr Marcus Cox, technical director.
