The International Development Committee (IDC) heard from the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) and the Department for International Development (DFID) on the UK aid’s results in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH).
The session looked at ICAI’s findings that althought DFID reached its target and provided 62.9 million people with access to WASH over the 2011 to 2015 period, it does not approach the sustainability challenge in a systematic way nor it applies a consistent approach for measuring value for money across its WASH portfolio.
Dr Alison Evans, and Richard Gledhill, ICAI’s commissioners, were supported by Agulhas’ Director Nigel Thornton, team leader for the review.
